Thorell guitars are hand built by
luthier Ryan Thorell in a one- man shop in Cache Valley, Utah. He built
his first guitar at the age of 13 and embarked on a life long journey
down two paths simultaneously.
He loved playing
and became an accomplished jazz guitarist and teacher having studied
with both Bruce Forman and Frank Vignola. Frank would later commission
Ryan to create a signature model for him that is currently available in
two formats.
All the while he
was studying the guitar as a player he was also learning about their
construction. He apprenticed with local luthier/repair tech Tim
Gonzalez. He also became very involved in building fine furniture from
which he developed his ability to make and use hand tools, as well as a
deep appreciation for working with fine woods and other raw materials.
Ryan also studied privately with renowned luthier Tom Ribbecke.
Ryan is passionate
about his craft, which is evident in every instrument he creates. His
designs are very personal and timeless which comes across not only in
the look but in the shape of the tone as well. Each guitar is crafted
with an intent and purpose as individual as the customers he works
with.
